Miguel Angel Herrero García (Madrid, 1951) has a Ph.D.in Mathematics (Universidad Complutense, UCM, 1979) and is Professor of Applied Mathematics at UCM since 1988. He was Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics at UCM between 2004 and 2008, and Director of IMI (Institute for Interdisciplinary Mathematics) at UCM between 2008 and 2011.
From 1999 to 2008, Dr. Herrero was a member of the Scientific Board of the Spanish Royal Mathematical Society (RSME). Between 2008 and 2014 he has been a member of the Board of the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology, ESMTB (http://esmtb.org/).
He has been appointed European Mathematical Society Lecturer for 2014 (http://www.euro-math-soc.eu/list-ems-lecturers).In this same year 2014 he was elected corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Sciences (Real Academia de Ciencias; www.rac.es) in Spain.
